Chiswick townhouse
20/12/2010
This beautiful Victorian townhouse in Chiswick sits within the Bedford park conservation area.
The planning application and subsequent construction needed to be sympathetic to the original fabric of the building while at the same time offering a layout and amenities suitable for modern family life.
The architect, Mike Gibson, of De Matos Ryan Architects approached Acumen after hearing about our work through a colleague at the practice. Since completion Acumen have received further invitations to tender and hope to collaborate with DMR again soon.
The project combines bespoke joinery in the kitchen and living area with lots of glass at the rear elevation to offer an uninterrupted view of the newly landscaped garden. The large fixed glass panel in the dining room was craned in from an adjacent street and weighed in excess of 400kg! Due to frameless detail around the glass there were only millimetres of tolerance between the glass and steel frame forming the opening.
The client was also kind enough to recommend Acumen to a friend and that lead to a further appointment in the area. For more details on that project see Loft conversion in W4.
He went on to say, “Final thank you Sean for everything you did – please pass my thanks to the rest of your team – it’s a great job and we will continue to recommend you guys – we get asked quite a bit you’ll be glad to know!”
